Ziah's Story

It all started when a prenatal test revealed that LaTica and Drew’s daughter Ziah had a dangerous condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). In short, it meant Ziah would be born with only half a heart, and would require multiple reconstructive surgeries.

Fortunately, there’s CHAMP (Cardiac High-Acuity Monitoring Program). CHAMP is an innovation created by Children’s Mercy that collects real-time data like heartbeat, oxygen levels and more, and, keeps parents connected with their care team to share daily videos, updates or concerns.

For Ziah, CHAMP was critical in keeping her healthy between heart surgeries. Now 17 months old, Ziah is living proof that Love Will do whatever it takes to give families their moments back. These days, her moments consist of reading books, playing music and making “vroom vrooms” with her toy trucks.
