Cardiovascular (Heart) Surgery

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children’s Mercy combines technology and expertise to care for children with complex heart problems. We offer surgical treatment for all types of inherited and acquired heart conditions.

Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

Ear, nose and throat problems are one of the most common reasons for surgery in children. No matter how simple or complex the procedure, you can be confident that every member of your child’s surgical team has extensive knowledge and experience working with children.

Fetal Surgery

Our Fetal Treatment Team uses the latest minimally-invasive and open fetal surgical techniques to repair or manage certain conditions before a baby is even born. We treat babies with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, spina bifida and many more conditions.

General and Thoracic Surgery

We offer a wide range of surgical treatments for conditions such as appendicitis, pectus excavatum and carinatum, hernias, Hirschsprung disease and hydrocele. Whenever possible, our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to help kids heal more quickly. This results in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and reduced risk of complications and scarring after the surgery.

Gynecology

Girls and young women ages birth to 21 receive a full range of primary care and surgical services from the only pediatric gynecology program in the region. We can help with conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and correcting structural problems in the genital tract.

Hand Surgery

Our trained and experienced team of hand surgeons work to repair all types of hand, wrist and arm conditions in children. We care for children with injuries, birth differences, neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy, and tumors that affect the hand and arm.

Ophthalmology

Pediatric vision problems require special treatment because the brain cells that control vision are not fully developed in children. Our surgeons are specially trained to handle common problems such as blocked tear ducts and crossed eyes, as well as more complex issues such as pediatric cataracts, glaucoma and eye tumors.

Orthopedic Surgery

We provide specialized care for kids and teens who need surgery on their bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, nerves or tendons. Whether your child has a sports injury, bone fracture, spine disorder or other condition, our surgeons can help them get on the road to recovery.

Neurosurgery

Our neurosurgeons provide consultation and treatment for all types of neurosurgical disorders, including hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and traumatic injuries of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.

Plastic Surgery

Children’s Mercy is home to one of the largest pediatric plastic surgery programs in the U.S. For kids, plastic surgery is about much more than just appearances. Our collaborative team includes experts in nutrition, dentistry, ENT, occupational therapy and genetics who work together to help families find solutions to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery concerns.

Spine Surgery

Together with specialists from neurology, rehabilitation medicine, and other areas, our pediatric spine surgeons care for conditions like scoliosis, kyphosis and spinal trauma in children from birth through early adulthood.

Sports Medicine

Teenage athletes heal differently than adults. Our Sports Medicine Center evaluates injured athletes within 48-72 hours of an injury. We can provide minimally invasive surgery and comprehensive rehabilitation to help get athletes back in play as soon as possible.

Transplant Center

When your child needs an organ transplant to survive, we are ready to guide you through the process. We have expert teams ready to perform kidney, liver and heart transplants in children and young adults.

Urology

Our surgeons use the latest minimally-invasive, research-based techniques to help children with urinary and genital-tract problems. The surgical team works together with care providers in our specialty clinics to determine when surgery is the best option.
