Spiritual Services

Families of hospitalized children often face unique and difficult questions, emotions, and decisions. The Children's Mercy Department of Spiritual Services provides emotional and spiritual support to all patients, families, and staff. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day to people of all faith traditions. A nurse or the hospital operator can assist in contacting a chaplain.

Resources for patients and families

Chapel and garden

The Lisa Barth Chapel and Nancy Nutter Moore Garden are open 24 hours a day and offer places of comfort and prayer. The garden provides access to a beautiful outdoor fountain area.

The Lisa Barth Chapel library is stocked with books for children and adults from many faith traditions. Patients and families are welcome to remove a book from the library, and are asked to return it if possible.

An interfaith worship service where all are welcome is held at the Lisa Barth Chapel every Sunday from noon - 12:20 p.m. This service is broadcast on Channel 7 of any hospital television.

A Roman Catholic Communion Service on Sundays in the Lisa Barth Chapel is hosted at 12:45 p.m. Those desiring the Eucharist who cannot attend this service may request a hospital room visit which will be made immediately after the 12:45 p.m. service by contacting the chaplain on-call via the hospital operator by pressing “0” on any hospital phone.

Meditation is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 - 12:50 p.m. The sessions are led by the Children's Mercy Professionalism and Wellbeing, Spiritual Services, and Employee Wellness.
