Respiratory Outpatient Clinic (ROC)

Important information

As of Saturday, March 14, Children’s Mercy will not accept any new Respiratory Outpatient Clinic (ROC) referrals. The ROC will close on Friday, March 20 at all locations.

It will close at 7 p.m. at Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas and it will close at 10 p.m. at the three area urgent care centers. This early closure is an effort to minimize access points for patients coming into Children’s Mercy with respiratory illnesses in order to protect our patients, families and staff.

About the ROC Clinic

The ROC is a referral only clinic which provides suctioning treatment for children who are at least 8 weeks old, up to 24 months old, with bronchiolitis. ROC is staffed by a licensed pediatric respiratory therapist. Bronchiolitis is a breathing tract infection that can cause infants to have labored breathing, trouble sleeping and trouble feeding, which can lead to dehydration.

After receiving a referral from your child’s primary care provider, you will receive a 7-day prescription for visiting ROC. You may visit as many times as necessary during that timeframe, but your insurance co-pay or visit deposit will be charged each visit. Please note, the patient should not eat 1 hour before arriving to the ROC.

Call the Nurse Advice Line for questions at (816) 234-3188.
