Employer Supported Training Programs
At Children’s Mercy we understand the value of recruiting and retaining top talent which is why we are committed to developing training programs that allow our current employees to learn new skills while also maintaining a full-time income. Here are some of the programs that we offer our employees who are in good standing and have been in their current position for at least 90 days.
Care Assistant Training
Care Assistants are a critical part of the nursing care team at Children’s Mercy. Many traditional CNA training programs focus training on adult patients. CM has developed an eight-week training program that is tailored to pediatrics where candidates apply and interview with one of our nursing departments. If selected, they will be paid a full-time salary while in training. Once training is complete, candidates begin working on the unit where they conducted training. Although we do allow both internal and external candidates to apply, priority consideration is given to internal candidates.
Sterile Processing Certification Training
Sterile Processing Technicians have an integral role in the Operating Room. These individuals ensure that all the instruments used during surgery are properly cleaned and disinfected and prepped and ready for the next surgery. In our Sterile Processing Certification Program, candidates apply and interview for a position in this role. Along with their departmental orientation training, they meet three times a week during their scheduled shift to receive classroom instruction that will help them learn more about their profession and prepare them to take the HSPA (Hospital Sterile Processing Association) certification exam. The training for this position is approximately 14 weeks. Instruction is provided by the Director of the OR and Central Sterile Processing and employees are paid for the time spent in the classroom setting.
Respiratory Therapy Sponsorship Program
This program is designed to support individuals who have an interest in pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy at Children’s Mercy. Participants must be accepted into a Respiratory Therapy program through an educational institution that offers an accredited program and interview with the Children’s Mercy RT leadership team. CM will requires selected employees to maintain a part-time work schedule while in school and the hospital will supplement the remainder of the salary through a stipend for each semester they are in the program (not to exceed four semesters). CM also provides up to $5,250 in tuition assistance each year. In exchange, participants will review and sign a three year work agreement to remain in a full-time RT position at CM after becoming a licensed RRT.
