Paychecks

Information for Foreign Nationals

Children’s Mercy paychecks are issued one of two ways: direct deposit into your bank account or on a DirectCheck card.

Your pay is sent electronically to your bank account every pay period. You may choose to have your pay sent to up to four different accounts and/or financial institutions. You also may choose to have a portion of your pay directly deposited and the remainder paid on a DirectCheck card.

You will enroll in these options at Children’s Mercy Orientation. To enroll in direct deposit, you will need to bring your bank account routing number and account number with you.

Direct deposit versus DirectCheck

Payday

Children’s Mercy pay periods are biweekly and begin on Sundays at 12 a.m. and end on Saturdays at 11:59 p.m. You are paid every two weeks on the Thursday following the end of the pay period.

Your hours are applied to the day your shift begins. For example, if you work a shift that begins on Saturday and ends on Sunday, the entire shift will be applied to Saturday, the day the shift begins.

Foreign nationals and Social Security Numbers

Social Security numbers (SSN) are required by our payroll department to track and report earnings to the United States government. Any foreign national obtaining a SSN in the United States for the first time between the time of accepting an offer and beginning employment needs to contact Jessica Youngs in Human Resources.

A Social Security number is required to enroll for a DirectCheck card. A SSN may be required to open a United States bank account, depending on the bank. Some banks will accept a passport, or similar form of identification in lieu of a SSN.

Please refer to the Onboarding Checklist for more instructions on how to apply for a Social Security number.
