Information for Foreign Nationals
Most federal offices and banks operate on a Monday through Friday schedule. Private businesses operate on varying work schedules, but typically refer to “business days” as Monday through Friday.
Many government offices, banks and schools are closed on federal holidays. Some private business may also close on these dates. Use the links provided in the table below to learn more about each federal holiday.

PTO
“PTO” refers to paid time off. Employers are not required to pay employees for time not worked such as vacations and holidays. Many employers, including Children’s Mercy, do offer paid holidays and paid time off benefits.
