Allergy, Asthma and Immunology

The Children's Mercy Allergy, Asthma and Immunology department seeks to provide high-quality care to our patients, offer an excellent education to our residents and fellows, and advance our understanding of allergic and immunologic disorders through research.

Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Staff

Our staff includes physicians who are board-certified either in pediatrics or internal medicine or both, and also in allergy and immunology. Our team also includes nurse practitioners, a social worker, asthma coordinators who oversee asthma care and education at the hospital, and environmental health specialists. We also have clinical and basic science investigators who keep us at the cutting edge of allergy/asthma/immunology research.

Pediatric patients have different needs than adult patients. Our approach to treatment is carefully managed using cost-saving, data-driven disease management initiatives including a pediatric asthma disease management program, an environmental health center and food allergy research program.

Food Allergies

The Children's Mercy Food Allergy Center is excited to be one of the 22 food allergy centers of excellence in the new Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) research Network, the leading nonprofit organization working for the 15 million Americans with food allergies. The network works to accelerate the development of drugs for patients with food allergies and improve the quality of care for this serious illness. FARE has provided an investment of over $2 million dollars each year to support this network. Learn more about this designation here.
