Allergy Clinic

The Allergy Clinic at Children’s Mercy provides diagnosis, testing and treatment for children with all kinds of allergic conditions. A board-certified pediatric allergist can identify your child’s needs and work together with you to create a plan of care.

Conditions we treat

  • Asthma
  • Seasonal allergies (allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis)
  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
  • Food allergy
  • Hives/swelling (urticaria)

What to expect

If you have concerns about an allergic condition, your child’s primary care provider may refer you to the Allergy Clinic, or you can schedule an appointment directly by calling (816) 234-3700.

Your first visit will last approximately 1-2 hours. It’s often possible to do allergy testing the day of your visit in our child-friendly clinic and lab. Your child may need to stop taking antihistamine medications seven days before their appointment if they will need allergy testing.

Depending on your child’s unique situation, we may be able to provide a diagnosis after your first visit. Regardless, our goal is for you to leave your appointment feeling confident that you know the next steps and how to best care for your child. We will always provide as much education and explanation as we can to help you feel at ease.
