Other Benefits

We have even more benefits that may meet individuals' needs and desires at Children's Mercy Kansas City, including:

Adoption assistance

  • The Adoption Assistance benefit provides reimbursement of eligible adoption expenses after your adopted child is placed in your home.

  • Full- and part-time employees, working at least 32 hours per two-week pay period, are eligible for this benefit effective 90 days after the hire date.

  • The amount of reimbursement varies by employment status:

    • Full-time employees are eligible for up to $5,000.

    • Part-time employees are eligible for up to $2,500.

  • Employees who are primary caregivers may use Extended Illness Time (EIT) during the period of time immediately following the child's placement.

Back-up care

Full-time, part-time, part-time casual and weekend option employees can access discounted back-up child and adult care through Bright Horizons. It’s available when you need to get to work and your normal caregiver arrangement is disrupted. The program will arrange temporary care for you at one of its child care centers or find a screened and credentialed caregiver to come to you. The cost is just $3 an hour for center-based care or $6 an hour for in-home care.

“This was the first time I had to use this service and it greatly helped. Working from home, I had to have someone to help most of the day so I could get work completed. A benefit I will use again if needed.”

“Because of the Bright Horizons benefit, I am able to have my mother taken care of without worry.”

-Teri Clerkin

“With no family living near, if not for back-up care, I would have to call off of work.”

“It is peace of mind when all other options for care have been exhausted.”

Employee discounts

  • All employees are eligible for a discount on Children's Mercy medical services effective the date of hire.

  • The discount will be applied by Cigna if your child is enrolled in a Children's Mercy medical plan.
