The Children’s Mercy Optical Shops can help you find the perfect glasses for your baby, toddler, child or teen. Our three Kansas City-area locations are conveniently located alongside our Ophthalmology clinics, so you can pick out your frames right after your appointment or bring in a prescription from any vision care provider.

Expert vision care from pediatric specialists

The Optical Shops are staffed by specially-trained opticians who are experienced in fitting glasses for children. They will take careful measurements of your child’s head size and eye placement to help you select the best type of frames for their needs.

Our opticians understand that getting used to wearing and caring for glasses can be a big adjustment for kids. They will take the time to teach you and your child about how to protect, clean and store their glasses when they’re not in use.

As soon as your glasses come in, the opticians will inspect them for quality and accuracy and make sure they’re adjusted to exactly the right comfortable fit for your child.

Finding the right glasses for your child

You are welcome to come in and browse our wide selection of frames for kids of all ages and sizes. If you’re here for an eye exam, we understand that can be a long time for a child to wait. We can help you find what you need and get on your way, or you can always come back to look at glasses another time.

Children’s Mercy accepts many insurance plans, including Medicaid. We also offer affordable self-pay options for families who are out-of-network. An optional one-year warranty will cover repair or replacement up to three times over the course of a year.

Our opticians will never pressure you into a purchase. Our goal is for you to find the right glasses for your child and address any questions or concerns you might have.

Glasses care tips from Children’s Mercy opticians

Our opticians want your child's glasses to last as long as they are needed. Follow the care tips below:

  • Remember the phrase: “On your face or in the case!” to help protect your glasses from damage.
  • Use the cleaning solution and cloth your optician recommends.
    • T-shirts, towels and napkins are not good for lenses.
  • Bring your glasses in for an adjustment if your child experiences discomfort while wearing them or has outgrown their current pair.
