  • Strengthen Market Position. Maintain our market position in the metro area and grow it throughout the region.
  • Deliver Value. Develop an integrated pediatric health system that demonstrates value, expertise, and efficiency.
  • Elevate Academic Profile. Enhance the research capabilities and accomplishments of Children's Mercy and strengthen the quality of the educational experiences.

Knowledge Translator (KT) Scholars

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2016) has identified there are substantial obstacles for translating research findings, with the intent of improving patient and staff outcomes, into sustained clinical practice. Designing evidence based practice projects has become an integrated component in nursing program curricula, however, these projects are not implemented in the clinical setting. There are two recommendations within The Institute of Medicine's (2010) The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report that calls on nursing to improve the population's health:

  1. Expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts
  2. Prepare and enable nurses to lead change to advance health
Realizing this call for quality improvement, Children's Mercy launched a collaboration between the Office of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and the Nurse Residency Program (NRP) in early 2015 that employed a tenured staff nurse (Knowledge Translation [KT] Scholar) to lead and mentor newly licensed nurses participating in the NRP to implement, or sustain, a practice change based on current science. Below are the KT Scholars for the Winter 2015 and Summer 2016 cohorts and the associated posters for the completed Winter 2015 Cohort.
