Children’s Mercy Recruitment

Mercy + ME Sub-Internship

The Children’s Mercy Kansas City Underrepresented in Medicine Student elective (Mercy + ME) is a unique program designed to attract highly qualified, fourth-year medical students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine (UIM) to gain exposure to training opportunities at Children’s Mercy. Selected participants spend four (4) weeks rotating through an elective experience as well as weekly half-day sessions within areas of Children’s Mercy that make it unique (Operation Breakthrough, CHiCoS clinic and the Genome Center, etc.). Students are provided with a resident mentor and a dinner with residents is arranged for the students to enhance exposure to the pediatric residents.

Mix and Mingle (Recruitment Season)

Throughout the interview season Mix & Mingle events are offered to UIM (Underrepresented in Medicine) medical students. This is an opportunity for applicants to meet with current Children’s Mercy UIM residents, fellows and faculty. The goal of the Mix and Mingle events is to expose visiting UIM medical students to diverse trainees and faculty during their interview visit and to discuss being a UIM trainee in academic medicine and in the KC metro area.
