The Heart Center Wellbeing Program at Children's Mercy offers a transformative model of care that integrates emotional, cognitive and mental health support with traditional cardiac treatment. By combining our established Thrive Program with our Cardiac Neurodevelopmental (CND) Program, this comprehensive approach fosters stronger collaboration among providers and enhances the breadth and cohesiveness of services, ensuring that patients and families receive seamless support across inpatient and outpatient settings. By expanding access to specialized psyschosocial care—from prenatal diagnoses to adult congenital heart disease—patients and families benefit from easier connections to providers and a broader array of resources tailored to their unique needs. The program’s presence positions Children's Mercy at the forefront of holistic heart care, offering families improved access to compassionate, research-driven support that prioritizes both physical and mental wellbeing, and enhances overall quality of life.

Thrive

The Thrive program provides comprehensive support for patients and families who are navigating the overwhelming emotions and complexities of coping with a heart condition.

We understand that caring for your child (and the rest of your family) involves much more than meeting their medical needs. The Thrive team can help you maintain resilience, self-care practices and emotional wellbeing throughout your child’s treatment.

Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program

The Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program’s goal is to assist children with heart disease and their families in reaching the best outcomes in all areas of development and quality of life. This includes helping families access free and appropriate services for their infants, children or adolescents with physical, developmental, learning or behavioral needs.
