Interview Day

What You Need to Know For Interview Day

On the day of your interview, those staying at Hotel Phillips should meet in the hotel’s front drive by 8:15 a.m. to take the shuttle to the hospital. You will want to check out of the hotel before this time. The shuttle will be there no later than 8:30 to get you, and the concierge will store your bags for you. Please keep in mind there may be other applicants for other programs so make sure you stick with Children’s Mercy Pediatric applicants. If you miss the shuttle, taxi cabs are readily available, but we are unable to reimburse you for that expense.

If you will be driving yourself to the interview, please park in the main patient parking garage located directly in front of the hospital. When entering the parking garage tell the security officer you are here for an interview.

Upon your arrival to the hospital, please go through the security check point on the ground floor. You must have a Driver’s License with you to be issued a visitor’s badge. After you receive your visitor’s badge, please proceed to the seating area at the Roasterie Café.

A detailed schedule will be sent to you prior to your interview. Please plan to conclude your day at 2:15 for travel purposes.

If you experience travel delays, please email programcoordinator@cmh.edu during business hours (8 AM – 3 PM). If after business hours, page (816) 458-3244. Please type in your area code, phone number and then hang up. Someone will return your call ASAP.

Transportation

If you are flying into Kansas City International Airport (MCI), options for transportation from the airport to the hotel can be found on the KCI website. We recommend the Super Shuttle.

Please take advantage of our newly added Kansas City streetcar. The KC Streetcar project is a two-mile route running along Main Street in downtown Kansas City.

Dinner

We would like to invite you and your significant other to dinner with a few of our residents the night before the interview. If you will be bringing a significant other, please notify the program coordinators via the contact information at the bottom of this page. We have a great group of residents, and this is a nice time to meet some of them in a more relaxed environment. If you can't make it, it will in no way be held against you; it is done purely for you to get to know us a little better.

Applicants can be picked up at Hotel Phillips at 6:30 pm by a couple of our current residents. They will take you on a mini tour of Kansas City before meeting the rest of the group at dinner. If you are not staying at Hotel Phillips, you can be picked up for the tour in the circle drive at Children's Mercy. Dinner expenses, including non-alcoholic beverages, will be covered by Children's Mercy. If you would just like to meet the group, dinner reservations are at 7 p.m. Options are available on the menus for most dietary restrictions. Please see below for your resident dinner details.
