How to apply

We will be with you every step of the way to connect you with the best resources for your child and family’s unique needs. Together with our clinical teams, we’ll develop an individualized care plan, including any social and emotional support your family may need. We can also help you find resources for planning your trip and getting the necessary paperwork in place for international travel.

Heres how to get started.

Step 1. Fill out this Patient Application form.

  • We will respond within 1 to 3 U.S. business days.

Step 2. Obtain medical clearance from Children’s Mercy.

  • Once we have received your application, our clinical team will review your child’s medical records to determine whether Children’s Mercy is a good fit for your child’s needs.
  • If we are able to provide the care your child needs, we will work together with you to develop a care plan that is designed around your family’s unique needs.

Step 3. Obtain financial clearance.

  • Upon agreement from you and our clinical team on the individualized treatment care plan based on your child’s specific needs, we will begin developing a cost estimate for the treatment care plan.
  • We will discuss financial arrangements based on your family’s preferred method of payment for services.
    • If you have medical insurance, we will verify your health care benefits and co-pay, if required.
    • If you are a self-pay patient, we require a deposit of funds in U.S. dollars.
    • If you have government sponsorship, we require a Letter of Guarantee or Letter of Financial Coverage.
  • Once your financial plan is confirmed, we will coordinate your visit schedule with the health care team who will care for your child.
  • Upon confirmation of required payment and/or financial arrangement, International Services can provide a Letter of Medical necessity for you and your child to apply for the appropriate travel visa.

Step 4. Share any additional needs.

  • Our team will continue to get to know your child and family so we can design a customized itinerary, including dates of service, for your time at Children’s Mercy. We want to support your child’s physical, mental and emotional health needs and make sure your family is as comfortable as possible throughout the process. We offer supportive services such as:

Step 5. Experience care at Children’s Mercy.

  • Our team will be here to help your family during your time at the hospital.
