Red Flag Signs

RED FLAGS to consider:

  • Meconium not passed in first 48 hours as a newborn
  • Onset before 1 month of age
  • Family history of Hirschsprung disease
  • Blood in the stools with fever
  • Failure to thrive
  • Abnormal lower extremity neurologic exam (decreased reflexes, tone, or strength)
  • Sacral dimple or tuft of hair on spine
  • Perianal fistula or scars
  • Concern for cystic fibrosis
