The Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) Fellowship at Children's Mercy is a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship designed to develop advanced skills in the diagnosis and treatment of children with disabilities. We offer a variety of clinical and educational experiences designed to develop leaders in the field of pediatric physiatry.
The mission of the training program is to develop well-trained pediatric rehabilitation medicine physicians capable of providing exceptional care to children. In order to reach this goal, the fellow is considered both a colleague and a student. The fellowship program creates and maintains an environment in which the fellow receives the highest quality of education with evidence-based teaching and multiple clinical and non-clinical opportunities available. While teaching and learning translate to excellence in patient care, the highest priority of the fellowship is educational and not service. A fellow’s educational program is individualized to meet his/her needs and best prepare him/her for clinical practice, research, leadership, and beyond.
Our fellows participate in a broad range of outpatient clinics as well as inpatient and consultation services. We offer specialized training in all major areas of pediatric physiatry.
The PRM curriculum is designed to advance each fellow’s knowledge and clinical skills to become a leader in the field. Educational opportunities include faculty-led didactics, subspecialist didactic series, journal clubs, grand rounds, and multidisciplinary conferences. We also offer several individualized educational opportunities to allow each fellow to focus on his/her individual interests.
Our faculty recognizes that being mentors and training future pediatric rehabilitation specialists is a privilege. We facilitate adult learning to advance a fellow’s independence as they progress through training. We provide a flexible, collegial educational environment that allows each fellow to thrive. Each faculty member has unique areas of clinical and research focus that will meet the needs of any incoming fellow. The program offers a formalized mentorship program to ensure fellows have personal and professional support as they prepare for a successful career in PRM.
