The Palliative Care Team (PaCT) at Children’s Mercy started in 2003, making it one of the more established programs in the country. PaCT cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses and clinical circumstances in all areas of the hospital. In 2018, the team met with 260 new patients, followed twice that many, and had an average daily inpatient census of 53, making it one of the busiest programs in the country as well. A significant portion of the new patient consults came from the Fetal Health Center.
The core team includes:
Jenni Linebarger, MD, MPH
John Stroh, MD
Kelstan Ellis, DO, MS-CR, MBe
The interdisciplinary team draws upon the patient’s primary social worker, child life specialist, and chaplain.
The palliative care fellowship at the University of Kansas became one of the first 32 programs to receive accreditation in 2008. The pediatric HPM track graduated its first fellow in 2017.
