How to Apply
Pediatric Surgery Fellowship
The Pediatric Surgical Training Program at Children’s Mercy participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates who wish to apply for a two-year position as a PSF are required to submit a Common Application Form, Personal Statement, and three letters of recommendation through ERAS (Electronic Resident Application Service). After receipt of the required materials, an interview date is offered to selected applicants. On the day of the interviews, the applicant is interviewed by the teaching staff. After all applicants have been interviewed, a meeting of the teaching staff is held to rank the candidates. These names are placed on a Program Rank Order List which is submitted to the NRMP. Upon notification from the NRMP of who matched at Children’s Mercy, that person is contacted by the PD. An official contract is provided to him/her prior to the start date.
Children’s Mercy Hospital primarily accepts international medical graduates for residency and fellowship programs in J-1 visa status. To be eligible for appointment, all international medical graduates must be sponsored by ECFMG for J-1 non-immigrant classification. CM will make all reasonable efforts to obtain the requested immigration benefit including the transfer of an existing H1B. However, we cannot guarantee any specific category of visa or any result, and CM may end or withdraw its sponsorship at any time if sponsorship was no longer feasible due to legitimate business reasons. CM reserves the right to make final decisions about sponsorship in its discretion and in compliance with U.S. law, regulations, and policy.
