Pediatric Electrophysiology Fellowship

The Children's Mercy Heart Center is excited to announce it's 18-month advanced fellowship in Pediatric Electrophysiology.  Learn more about our Nationally Ranked Electrophysiology Program.

Program Aims

  • Prepare fellows to competently and confidently deliver care across all facets of the field of pediatric EP through high-volume, direct clinical care and hands-on experience in the ambulatory, inpatient, and invasive EP lab settings.
  • Provide career guidance and mentorship through direct investment from our EP faculty in the concentrated training of our fellows along with participation in recurring one-on-one and small group meetings for education and didactics, career planning and job preparation, and open dialogue on how to establish and maintain high clinical productivity balanced with healthy work-life balance and general wellbeing.
  • Advance high-quality translational research in the field of pediatric EP, ultimately enhancing our care delivery, improving outcomes for patients and families, and supporting progress in the understanding of arrhythmias and improvement in the tools and technology we incorporate to treat and cure arrhythmic diseases.

Clinical Experiences

The 18-month advanced fellowship in pediatric EP will be divided into six 3-month blocks.  Each block will be comprised of a combination of CM Pediatric Clinical, CM Pediatric Research, and KU Adult EP.

CM Pediatric Clinical Months
Primary emphasis includes EP procedures and hands-on experience in the CM EP Lab.

Weeks 1-3 - 4 days a week in the EP Lab.

Week 4 - 2 days of EP Lab; 2 days in an implantable cardiac device clinic with hands-on training in the interrogation and programming of implantable cardiac rhythm devices.

CM Research Months
EP lab for procedural experience 1 day per week, with 3 days per week dedicated to research.

KU Adult EP Months
Scheduled procedures in adult EP Monday - Thursday.

Fellows will have Friday reserved for a half-day EP clinic with afternoon didactic sessions that will be reserved for formal education by our EP faculty on EP topics, case review and upcoming case preparation, and personal mentorship. Advanced EP fellow on-call responsibilities will be comprised of after-hours/overnight call from home Monday through Thursday night for 2 weeks of a given month along with 1 weekend of home-based call per month. Cumulatively, the advanced EP fellow will have a total of 9 CM clinical months, 6 CM research months, and 3 KU adult EP months during the 18-month fellowship.
