Pediatric Neurosurgery
Educational objectives:
- Learn to take history and carry out physical examination, including neurologic examination, on infants and children focusing on conditions amenable to neurosurgical care.
- Understand the full spectrum of medical conditions in children and adolescents that may benefit from referral to a pediatric neurosurgeon.
- Observe and participate in neurosurgical procedures. Understand the basics principles of perioperative care, and the key elements that differentiate pediatric surgical care from adult surgical care.

Elective duration: One month
Format: Clinical, reading, lectures/conferences
Prerequisites:
- Completion of core surgical clerkship required
- Completion of core pediatric clerkship required
- Completion of a neurology or neurosurgery elective strongly recommended
Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6 am - 5 pm
Criteria for passing: Criteria for passing is based on satisfactory attendance, participation and performance during the course of the rotation.
Criteria for honors: Honors is reserved only for students seeking a career in neurosurgery and wishing to obtain a potential letter of recommendation. Additional requirements, such as weekend and overnight call participation expected.
