The Pediatric Transplant Hepatology Fellowship is a one-year advanced program whose mission is to train future leaders in the field of pediatric hepatology by providing gastroenterology fellows with comprehensive training in pediatric liver disease and liver transplant.

Fellowship Highlights

Your Clinical Experience

Six months of inpatient service (M-F) with no call obligations

Gain experience leading a busy general hepatology and transplant service with inpatient rounds on the general hepatology floor, pediatric ICU, and neonatal ICU

Dedicated multidisciplinary support team including pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, dieticians, and advanced practice providers

Endoscopy

Dedicated procedure time most inpatient blocks allow advanced fellows time to sharpen endoscopy skills and gain confidence in variceal band ligation and sclerotherapy

Research

The advanced transplant hepatology fellow will have five months of protected time to pursue research and quality improvement interests throughout their fellowship year. The Children’s Mercy Hepatology team offers robust and diverse opportunities to participate in ongoing scholarly work in many areas of pediatric liver disease including transplantation, cholestatic liver disease, metabolic associated steatohepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, pediatric acute liver failure, and more. Study participation includes sponsored studies and ongoing collaboration with multiple pediatric liver disease networks including the Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation and Society of Pediatric Liver Transplant.
