Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship

Children’s Mercy Hospital Division of Emergency Medicine comprises of two dedicated pediatric emergency departments providing excellent opportunities in the care of a wide-array of pediatric pathology. Our facilities are not only colorful and kid-friendly, but incorporate state-of-the-art technology, ever-growing research resources and an easily accessible electronic medical record system.

Adele Hall Emergency Department

  • Located in downtown Kansas City comprising of a primarily urban population

  • Annual patient volume of ~65,000 visits per year

  • 39-bed emergency department including 6 trauma rooms staffed by PEM faculty & fellows

  • Only regional level 1 pediatric trauma center

  • Dedicated fast-track zone staffed by nurse practitioners & general pediatricians

  • 24-hour services available in-house: radiology (ultrasound, CT, & MRI), ED pharmacist, ED social workers, & Spanish interpreters

  • Medical control for local/regional EMS pediatric transports

Children's Mercy Kansas Emergency Department

  • Located in Overland Park, KS, a suburban community of Kansas City

  • Annual patient volume of ~45,000 visits per year

  • 28-bed emergency department with 24-hour coverage by PEM faculty and general pediatricians

  • 24-hour in-house radiology services, including ultrasound & CT

  • Ambulance services

Additional Available Resources

  • 41-bed PICU consisting of cardiac, medical, and trauma/surgical services

  • Nationally recognized pediatric transport service with ground, helicopter, & fixed wing transport

  • Pediatric SANE providers for evaluation of acute sexual assault

  • Acute mental health providers for evaluations of acute crises

  • 24-hour availability of ED social workers, ED pharmacists & Spanish interpreters
