Nursing Job Shadow Program


Children's Mercy offers shadowing opportunities for students who are interested in a career in nursing.

The Children's Mercy nursing observation may be for you if: 

  • You are interested in an observation experience as a nursing student with strong interest in pediatrics.

  • You are interested in an observation experience looking at a possible career in health care.

  • You are interested in an observation experience completion as part of a job application process.

  • You are interested in an observation experience desiring experience in a pediatric facility due to limited clinical opportunities through your school of nursing.

Critical care areas (ED, PICU, and NICU) are generally unavailable. Available units include: Surgical, Hematology/Oncology, Cardiac, Medical (neuro, respiratory, infectious disease), Diabetic/ Cystic Fibrosis/ GI unit, Ortho. If there are other areas of interest, it may be possible to set-up observation after your paperwork is received. 

If the hours requested are required for class credit, you are not eligible for the nursing shadow observership. Instead, you will need to go through the your school and MOKAN placement.
