Pediatric Cardiology of Springfield has provided non-invasive pediatric cardiology services to patients throughout southwest Missouri, northern Arkansas, northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas since 1988.
Our practice has recently transitioned ownership and is now part of the Children’s Mercy family. Our team remains dedicated to providing top-quality pediatric cardiology services. Our providers
Frederick Emge, MD
Dr. Emge, board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York. He completed his pediatric internship and residency at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.
Alan Tong, MD
Dr. Tong has practiced pediatric cardiology since 1994. From 1994-2004 he was an assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center/Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Children's Mercy has been notified by CoxHealth that, effective Oct. 1, 2026, Dr. Emge and Dr. Tong will no longer be participating providers in the CoxHealth insurance network.
Dr. Emge and Dr. Tong remain part of Children's Mercy and welcome the opportunity to continue caring for patients. However, services provided by these physicians may be considered out of network for CoxHealth members, which could result in higher out-of-pocket costs. Coverage and benefits vary by plan.
Families with questions about insurance coverage, benefits, transition-of-care provisions or out-of-network costs should contact CoxHealth directly.
Children's Mercy remains committed to helping families understand their care options. Patients may continue receiving care with Dr. Emge or Dr. Tong, including self-paying patients. Our team can help review upcoming appointments, discuss care-planning needs, and coordinate the sharing of medical information, as appropriate.
