The Center for Pediatric Genome Medicine at Children's Mercy
Hospitals and Clinics is the first genome center in the world
inside a children's hospital. It is also the first focused on
genome sequencing and analysis for inherited children's
diseases.

Our key focus is on improving health care for children -
redefining pediatric medicine one child at a time. Time magazine recently named our rapid whole genome sequencing approach a top medical breakthrough of 2012.
Hundreds of children affected by uncharacterized inherited
diseases are referred to Children's Mercy each year. The Center for
Pediatric Genomic Medicine will work with children to discover, for
the first time, the genetic causes of hundreds of single-gene
childhood diseases.
While most genome centers are focused on research, the Center
for Pediatric Genomic Medicine will develop new clinical tests as a
starting point for next-generation medical treatments to improve
outcomes patients and Children's Mercy and around the world.
The Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine provides genome,
computation and analysis capabilities that support our most
cutting-edge research programs in Pediatrics, Neonatology,
Hematology/Oncology, Fetal Health, Pharmacogenetics and
Personalized Medicine.
