1. What is your current role at CMRI?
My role is to facilitate the financial management of Core Service Centers within research. That includes budgeting, facilitating the setup of new Core Service Centers and managing monthly and annual financial reviews for ongoing Core Service Centers. The one role that has been most rewarding in my line of work is when I get to support clients through the Core Service Centers by either assisting in the navigating of the systems or by directing their queries to the right researchers, thus integrating a seamless connection between those seeking research services and the research itself.
2. What drew you to a career at CMRI?
My children did the magic when it came to seeking a career at Children’s Mercy. I knew right away when my daughter was an inpatient at Children’s Mercy that I wanted to be a part of making a difference to the thing that matters most to families and the community. Children. Shoutout to Maureen Huckaby, MBA, MSW; Diana Schwien; and the entire team of research accounting for your mentorship, knowledge sharing and never-ending support — you make CMRI possible!
3. What are your research/career goals?
My career goal is to help grow the Children’s Mercy Research Core, which is fairly new, in capacity and capabilities. To help extend more services not only within Children’s Mercy but across other hospitals and affiliations.
4. What is your favorite thing about working at CMRI?
Medicine is advanced through research. I am thrilled and humbled to be a part of CMRI, whose goal is to seek and advance wellbeing of children through research. Even with my limited knowledge of medicine as a discipline, the amount of knowledge sharing and application from researchers makes my work so much fun and intriguing. It's rarely a dull day.
5. What is on your bucket list?
On my bucket list, hmmm! :)
- A trip to the Space — experience no gravity and view the earth from "outside."
- A one-on-one lunch/dinner with Alejandro (Ale) Quiroga, MD, MBA.
- Visit Jamaica.
