Diabetes Type I: A study about teplizumab, an investigational drug, and its ability to protect cells producing insulin.

This study is being done for kids, adolescents, and young adults: * Ages: 1- 17 years * Recent diagnosis of Diabetes Type I (T1D). The main goal of the study is to see if teplizumab can work better than a placebo (a look-alike with no medicine in it) in helping people keep their blood sugar in a healthy range or use less mealtime insulin. Children's Mercy is one of many sites participating in this study.
