Big Slick is our blowout annual event that puts the “fun” in fundraiser — all for the kids! This celebrity-packed weekend supports transformative care at Children’s Mercy, and is a favorite for patients, community members and celebrity attendees alike.
Like a lot of events benefiting the hospital, many people give their time behind the scenes to make sure the weekend runs smoothly and is a great experience for the patients.
“It’s really amazing to see how the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend activities come together — with careful planning and coordination among volunteers and staff at Children’s Mercy,” said Jenea Oliver, Vice President of Philanthropy. “We’re so grateful to the Big Slick committee for working tirelessly year after year to make each event better than the last while remaining focused on what really matters — the kids and the mission of Children’s Mercy!”
Since this is an event for the kids, it is important that all patients can be a part of the fun — even if they aren’t well enough for a personal visit from our generous celebrity visitors.
Thanks to a partnership with the Melodic Caring Project, we are able to film and live stream parts of the Big Slick Celebrity Softball game and Big Slick Celebrity Bowl to patients at Children’s Mercy who were not able to participate in a hospital visit. During the segments, celebrities gave shout outs and said words of encouragement to the kids.
