Research Integrity

The Children’s Mercy Research Institute is committed to the highest standards of conducting safe and ethical research. The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) helps the institute uphold this commitment to our research participants by:

  • Providing oversight and direction for the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). The HRPP is hospital-wide effort to develop and implement policies and practices that promote ethical and safe research that is compliant with federal, state and local laws.

  • Providing administrative support for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB is group of doctors, nurses, social workers, community members, etc. that review proposed research studies to make sure that researchers are providing the appropriate protections for research participants.

  • Conducting post-approval monitoring reviews through the Research Quality Monitoring Program (RQMP). The RQMP conducts routine and directed reviews of active studies to ensure that our researchers are following federal/state/local regulations, CMH policies and procedures and industry best practices. The goal of the RQMP is to use continuous quality improvement concepts to help our researchers conduct the best research possible.
