Student Observerships

As of March 1, 2021, we continue to reduce the amount of non-essential entries into our organization. Until further notice, all observership experiences for departments are suspended. Please continue to monitor this webpage for further developments.

Medical Student Observerships

It is possible to arrange a half-day to a full-day observership under the supervision of a faculty member at Children's Mercy.

Medical student observers must be enrolled at a U.S. Allopathic or Osteopathic medical school.

To arrange for an observership:

  • Students are to find a faculty physician who agrees to supervise the student and allow the student to work with them. Students can search for physicians by searching on the Find a Provider page.

  • Once the student has found a physician whom they can observe, student must review and sign the Agreement for Student Observation and the Information About Children's Mercy brochure and obtain the required faculty signatures.

  • Faculty must initiate the request and are responsible for the observership experience.

  • Students should send both documents to Lisa Kenslow at or fax to (816) 302-9959 for final approval.
