What to Bring (and Not Bring)


We’re looking forward to seeing you at Children’s Mercy. Let's make sure you’re ready for your visit. Here’s what to bring:  

For all appointments and clinic visits:

  • Your questions for us: Write down what you want to talk about and bring the list with you.
  • Driver’s license or photo ID for accompanying adults.
    • For guardians other than parents: legal documentation of guardianship.
  • Medicaid or medical/pharmacy insurance cards.
  • Your child’s medications (in their original containers or a list of names and dosages).
  • Vaccination (immunization) record.
  • Recent lab tests, X-rays or other reports not done at Children’s Mercy.
  • Your preferred payment method for any co-pays or required deposits.
  • Masks, if you or your child has respiratory symptoms or a COVID-19 diagnosis.
  • A few favorite toys, books or magazines.
  • A blanket or soft toy to cuddle.
  • Diapers, bottles/formula and pacifiers for babies/toddlers.

If you are staying overnight or for longer procedures like surgeries:

  • All of the above, plus:
  • Freshly washed clothing, pajamas and shoes for you and your child.
  • Chargers for your electronic devices.
  • Small bills or change for vending machines (some take cards).
  • Toiletries and hair care items.
  • Glasses or contact lens supplies.

Items that are not allowed in Children’s Mercy

Including, but not limited to:

  • Firearms or ammunition (concealed or unconcealed)
  • Knives, scissors, razor blades or other sharp objects
  • Tasers
  • Mace, pepper spray
  • Alcohol, drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Flammable liquids or any type of explosives/projectiles
  • Impact weapons such as batons, brass knuckles, nunchucks, blackjacks, clubs, etc.
