Target audience


This full-day conference is intended for those clinicians who participate in the care of neonates.

 

Course objectives

  • Discuss important neonatal issues in which neonatal healthcare providers can advocate.
  • Define age of viability and discuss current guidelines.
  • Discuss when it is safe to start refeeding after necrotizing enterocolitis.
  • List at least two benefits with the use of nasal cannula and continuous positive airway pressure each amongst the neonatal population.
  • Discuss the top ten lactation issues in the neonatal intensive care unit.
  • Discuss teaching strategies in educating parents on safe sleep in neonatal intensive care units.
  • List key monitoring issues related to the brain when providing neuroprotective hypothermia in neonates.
  • Review the role of antimicrobial stewardship in optimizing antibiotic prescribing.
  • Recognize key clinical factors for decision-making for optimal care and outcomes.

Continuing education credit

Nursing: This educational activity has been awarded up to 6.0 contact hours.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is approved with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

For successful completion, nurses must sign in, participate in the interactive sessions of the program and complete the electronic evaluation form after the conference.

Respiratory Therapists: The Children’s Mercy CEU Evaluator has approved this program for up to 7.2 hours of Respiratory Continuing Education on behalf of the Kansas Respiratory Care Society, a chapter of the AARC. Providership #KRCS003.

New this year

A few days after the conference, all attendees will receive a Survey Monkey evaluation at the e-mail address provided at sign-in. This Survey Monkey will include a course evaluation and your certificate. Failure to complete the evaluation will result in loss of CE Credits as we will no longer be able to issue a certificate if the evaluation is not completed in full.

No call, no show

Participants who are employees of Children’s Mercy Hospital that have registered are expected to attend. If you are not able to attend due to a scheduling conflict, please cancel your registration or contact (816) 802-1177 so that you can be removed from the conference attendee list. Not canceling your registration or notifying one of us before the start of the event that you cannot attend, is considered a no call/no show as outlined by the Absences and Tardiness Policy and will be reported to your manager.
