Timely, personalized headache care for your child
Are you looking for relief from today's headache? If your child's headache has not responded to home treatments, you now have a better option.
Children's Mercy has started a first-of-its-kind Headache Treatment Center for kids and teens with acute headaches. The Center is geared toward providing rapid relief to decrease today's pain level in children ages three to 21.
Call (816) 302-1815 to schedule the next available appointment for your child. Appointments open up 48 hours in advance so we can make every effort to see you in the clinic as soon as possible.
The Headache Treatment Center is intentionally designed to be a pain-friendly environment. Because light, noise or movement can aggravate a headache, your child will be treated in a private care suite that is soundproof and has blackout shades. We also have other comfort measures available for your child, which include sleep masks, earplugs and essential oil patches to help aid in nausea and agitation.
We understand headaches
Our entire focus at the Center is headaches. Because headaches seem like such a common problem, they often don't get the treatment they deserve. We understand that headaches are more than just an annoyance--they can be debilitating. Our headache-trained providers will listen carefully to your child's symptoms and do our best to help provide relief.
Pain relief, today and down the road
Your child does not need a doctor’s referral to schedule an appointment with one of our trained headache experts. At the Headache Treatment Center, we will evaluate your child’s condition, make a diagnosis and provide treatments as needed. We have several treatment options geared at providing quick relief.

Our goal is to provide your child relief during this session. If your child’s pain still persists after treatment, we’ll help you determine the next best steps for your child. This could mean following up with your primary care provider, scheduling another session at the Headache Treatment Center or being referred to one of our Headache Relief Clinics for a more comprehensive treatment. Children with fevers or head injuries that have not been evaluated should first be seen by their pediatrician.
