How to Refer Patient Access

Patient Access Services is active in all inpatient and various outpatient clinic registrations. Twenty-four hour registration services are provided for inpatient and emergency room registrations.

Services provided for all patients/families in the Children's Mercy system include, but are not limited to:

Financial Counseling

Admissions counselors offer a wide range of expertise in programs such as Medicaid, SSI, BSHCN, various foundations and Children's Mercy's own financial assistance program.

Patient Placement

Our staff receives information for inpatient admissions and places patients of nursing units based on age, diagnosis and isolations needs.

Inpatient pre-certification is made five to seven days in advance for all scheduled admissions and outpatient surgical procedures. Certification is made within 24 hours for all direct or emergent admissions.

Division of Family Services

A DFS representative is housed in Patient Access Services to take applications for Medicaid, SSI and various other Missouri programs. The on-site representative meets with families by appointment on the same day their child is seen by our providers. A representative from the state of Kansas is available to take applications for families who live in Kansas.

Patient Access Services currently has two full-time Spanish-speaking staff members who provide interpretation services for families. Language and sign interpreters can be available during clinic visits and outpatient surgical procedures with advanced scheduling. (For additional information, see Interpreters/Sign Language, page 16.)

Children's Mercy Kansas

Inpatient, Surgicenter and various outpatient testing registrations are provided at the Children's Mercy Kansas campus. Our staff also is knowledgeable about financial programs and can assist families at the time of visit.
