Chair Members Bradley Warady, MD

Dr. Warady is Senior Associate Chair for the Department of Pediatrics at Children's Mercy Kansas City and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Warady is also a pediatric nephrologist; Chief of the Section of Pediatric Nephrology and Director of Dialysis and Kidney Transplantation. His major areas of research are chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) management of children.

Dr. Warady currently serves as co-Principal Investigator (PI) of the largest study of CKD in children nationwide, the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) cohort study. This multicenter, observational study is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has already generated seminal information on a variety of clinical issues including an improved means of measuring kidney function in children, blood pressure management, cardiovascular disease risk factors and health related quality of life of children with mild-moderate impairment of kidney function. He has also led a variety of multicenter studies designed to improve the care of children receiving chronic dialysis. Study topics have included intravenous iron and erythropoietic stimulating agent (ESA) therapies, the results of which have been incorporated into national guidelines for anemia management. He co-established and served as co-PI of the International Pediatric Peritonitis Registry and he currently serves as co-PI of the International Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Network, an initiative that compiles data from more than 50 dialysis centers worldwide to study clinical issues pertinent to the child receiving PD such as dialysis adequacy, growth, nutrition, bone management and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Warady serves as an Associate Editor for Peritoneal Dialysis International and as Dialysis Section Editor for Pediatric Nephrology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS) and he is a Council Member and Chairman of the Fellowship Committee of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA). He also serves on the Board of Directors and is past Board President of the Midwest Transplant Network Organ Procurement Organization and the National Kidney Foundation affiliate of Kansas and Western Missouri.

Dr. Warady is the author/co-author of more than 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and invited papers. He has been a member of several clinical practice guideline writing committees for the National Kidney Foundation and he recently co-chaired the NKF workgroup which published guidelines for the Nutritional Management of Children with CKD. He also co-edited the books CAPD/CCPD in Children and Pediatric Dialysis. He is an active community volunteer and has received the 2006 Founder's Award and the 2007 Chair's Award from the NKF, the 2009 Lifeline Award for lifetime achievement in transplantation from the Gift of Life Foundation and he served several terms as President of the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors.
