Neonatology Developmental Follow-Up

The Division of Neonatology provides developmental follow-up services to monitor the developmental progress of young children. Our team uses a established testing methods to help measure motor skills, language, and cognitive development.

Developmental Follow-Up Services

Children are seen for developmental testing using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development at their 2-year appointment. Children with more complex developmental problems may be referred to the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Sciences for additional assessment as needed. Children suspected of having developmental delays are referred to their school districts for early intervention services.

The Testing Process

The Bayley Scales of Infant Development uses a series of developmental play tasks to assess children's developmental progress. the tasks typically take between 45 - 60 minutes. Scores are used to determine each child's performance compared with norms taken from typical children of their age.
