Time Off

The Children's Mercy time off plans include:

Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Full- and part-time employees who work at least 32 hours per pay period accumulate PTO.

  • PTO accrues based on hours paid (excluding overtime).

  • The PTO accrual rate for newly hired employees is .08850 times the number of hours paid (excluding overtime). This amount is equal to 23 eight-hour shifts annually for an employee paid 80 hours biweekly for 26 pay periods during a 12 month period.

  • The PTO accrual rate increases at designated length of service milestones.

PTO may be used as it accrues for recognized holidays and scheduled or unscheduled absences, such as vacations, short-term illnesses, etc.

Up to 320 hours of PTO can be carried over to the next calendar year.

  • The PTO Buyback Program allows eligible employees to sell up to 80 hours of their PTO.

Extended Illness Time (EIT)

  • Full- and part-time employees who work at least 32 hours per pay period accumulate EIT.

  • The EIT accrual rate is 0.027 times the number of hours paid (excluding overtime), up to a maximum accrual of 120 hours.

  • EIT may be used after a designated number of hours of PTO are used due to your own medical condition.

Family Pay (FP)

  • Full- and part-time employees who work at least 32 hours per pay period, are eligible for up to two weeks of FP to care for a family member, or up to three weeks to bond with a new child for a maximum of three weeks in a 12-month period.

  • FP may be used after a designated number of hours of PTO are used to care for an ill parent, spouse or child.
