I hate PowerPoint talk (July 1, 2004)

I'm giving a speech on July 15 for Bluejacket Toastmasters, the club where the action is! Toastmasters is an international organization that helps its members learn how to communicate effectively. The talk was originally scheduled for July 1, but got postponed.

My talk is based on one of the earlier weblog entries, I hate PowerPoint (May 19, 2004). I've placed a rough draft of this talk on my web pages.

What's wrong with medical research discusses a review by Ben Thornley and Clive Adams of 2,000 research studies on schizophrenia. It highlights some serious weaknesses of the published research and serves as a model for critical review of research in all areas of medicine. I also have a one page handout summarizing this talk.

Pitch the pie! Ban the bar! criticizes the classic pie chart and bar chart. It offers a simple table of numbers as the best alternative and gives you some advice on how to lay that table out well.
