Do you need an earlier version of SPSS? (September 25, 2002)

There are several reasons that you might want an earlier version of SPSS.

  1. You used to using a specific version.
  2. You want to replicate someone else's research.
  3. You are having trouble with the current version.

There is no real cost to installing two or more versions of SPSS on your computer, since almost of the files are stored on the network.

What versions of SPSS do we have?

We currently run version 12 of SPSS on Terminal Server. We have a test version of terminal server that runs version 15. In the Fall of 2007, we expect to get version 16 of SPSS, which is a major upgrade.

Other versions of SPSS (most notably, version 7.5, 8.0. 9.0, 10.1, and 11.5) were available through a network file server (cmhfs1) that has become obsolete. If you need to analyze SPSS data on any of these systems, please talk to me directly.

What about version 6?

Version 6 is not compatible with the newer operating systems. If you need to use version 6, call me first to make special arrangements.

To remove 11.5 or earlier versions of SPSS from your computer

SPSS takes up very little space on your computer system, but if you need to remove version 11.5 or any earlier versions, follow these steps: From the Start menu, choose Settings and the Control Panel. From the Control Panel folder, double-click Add/Remove Programs. From the list, select SPSS for Windows. Click OK and follow the instructions on the screen.

If this does not work, you can remove the icons by right clicking on the START button and selecting OPEN. Double click on the PROGRAMS folder. Click once on each SPSS icon, and press the delete key. This approach does not remove a few files that belong to SPSS, but these files take up very little room.

If you cannot find the SPSS icons, try right clicking on the START button and selecting OPEN ALL USERS. If that does not work, call IS and explain that you need to remove some program shortcuts from your START menu, but you don't have ADMINISTRATOR privileges.
