Halloween treats need not be all sugar and fat

More than any other holiday, Halloween is the one children associate with food. More specifically, it’s visions of candy bars, cookies and other sugar-and-fat-laden snacks that dance in their heads.

And while no one wants to deny the fun of Halloween and the treats that go along with it, parents need to remember: All things in moderation. That’s especially true when it comes to surgar and fat.

For parents who want to avoid food treats all together, nutritionists at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics say they can still treat the children with such things as stickers, brightly-colored pencils or carnival-like trinkets.

There’s also the option of healthy, nutritious snacks. With that in mind, consider these devilishly good, quick-and-easy sugar-free snacks. For extra fun, let your trick-or-treater join in the fun of preparing them.
