Salary & Benefits

The annual salary for Children’s Mercy Hospital pediatric optometry resident is competitive with other post optometric degree residencies, particularly in consideration of the relatively low cost of living in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  The stipend is $32,000 which will be paid on a biweekly basis by Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics.

Health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and professional liability insurance are provided at no cost for the pediatric optometry resident.  All insurance coverage is explained in and governed by terms of the applicable plan or policy.

The pediatric optometry resident is entitled to ten working days with pay per year for vacation.  In addition, the resident will have five days of paid time per year to attend CE conferences. The resident will also have 5 paid days for sick leave.

An academic fund is provided for each resident.  Allowable expenses include CE meeting travel. Residents who present research at national meetings are eligible additional funds to help pay these expenses.
