Welcome to Graduate Medical Education
Welcome to the Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH). We are the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME), which is the central administrative office for coordination and implementation of policy and procedure that govern fellowship and residency programs.
CMH sponsors four programs, Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship, Pediatric Dentistry, Pediatric Otolaryngology and Child Neurology Residency. Our affiliated medical school, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, holds accreditation for the Pediatric, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency and Pediatric Surgery programs and 12 Pediatric fellowship programs housed at CMH. Policy and Procedure is defined by the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC). In addition, CMH has 8 internal non-accredited fellowship programs. Graduate Medical Education prepares residents and fellows for practice in Pediatrics or Pediatric Subspecialty. GME focuses on the development of professional skills and clinical competencies as well as on the acquisition of detailed factual knowledge in a Pediatric training program. The GME process is intended to prepare the resident or fellow for the independent practice of medicine and to assist in the development of a commitment to the life-long learning process that is critical for maintaining professional growth and competency as outlined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
CMH has excellent opportunities for residents and fellows seeking training opportunities within Pediatrics. All residency and fellow appointments are administered through the GME Office. The GME Office also serves as a source of information on a wide range of topics related to residency and fellowship training.
