The ratio of staff nurses to patients varies based on the number and acuity of patients.
We work 3 shifts, including:
- 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.
Orientees are assigned a preceptor throughout the orientation process. Orientation is from 3 to 6 months, depending on the orientee’s experience and knowledge.
The orientation process includes self study assignments, classes designed specifically for ER staff and biweekly meetings with the Coordinator of Unit Based Education and the preceptor.
During the orientation process, orientees learn:
- triage
- orthopedic care
- infectious disease care
- trauma care
- medical emergency care
- sedation certification
- central line certification
- pediatric advanced life support
Staff Nurses receive ongoing training, to include:
- trauma education
- hazmat education
- updates
- competency days
Paid training is available to become a preceptor, improve leadership skills, obtain PALS certification, and more!
Graduate NursesWe hire Graduate Nurses. Graduate Nurses work with a preceptor for 6 months before working independently. Refer to Orientation and Ongoing Training Opportunities for additional details.
Graduate Nurses advance to Staff Nurses after passing their state boards and successfully completing orientation.
