Our average daily census is 17.89 patients with an average of 16.9% of these patients requiring 1:1 care. The average number of admissions is 3.9 patients per day. The average length of stay in the PICU is 5.20 days.
We assign 1 RN to care for 1-2 patients, depending on acuity.
Full-time employees on our unit work 3 12-hour shifts each week:
- 7:00 am-7:30 pm
- 7:00 pm-7:30 am
We also have part-time, PRN, and Weekend Option positions.
We have a Charge Nurse on each shift, who typically is not assigned a patient load. Our Charge Nurses are involved with managing day-to-day operations of our unit.
We generally have a “resource nurse” available on each shift to assist others with procedures, transports, admissions, etc. The Resource Nurse responds to Code Blue and Rapid Response Team calls throughout the hospital. The Resource Nurse does not usually take a patient assignment unless acuity is very high on the unit.
