“3 Henson” is a general medical nursing unit that specializes in treating children with infectious diseases.

Our common winter diagnoses include:

  • RSV
  • Influenza
  • Pneumonia
  • Adenovirus
  • Croup
  • Pertussis
  • Asthma Exacerbation
  • Seizure Disorders
  • Bronchiolitis

Our common summer diagnoses include:

  • Meningitis
  • Febrile Illness
  • Kawasaki
  • Cellulites
  • Eczema
  • Rotavirus
  • Superinfected or complications of Chicken Pox
  • Gastroenteritis

We are a 16-bed unit featuring:

  • Rooms with negative air pressure to isolate airborne diseases. All rooms can be isolation rooms.
  • Two rooms contain anterooms which have double doors and a special ventilation system. These rooms are used for highly contagious diseases or special isolation circumstances, e.g., TB or Chicken Pox.
  • All patient rooms are private.

We also staff 3 West, the Observation Unit, a 13-bed unit caring for short-stay, minor procedure, post-operative patients. This unit is typically open on weekdays and closes over night, though during high-census times will stay open to take inpatients as needed.

Our patients range in age from neonates to 21 years.

We work with the “Silver Team” – a general medical team composed of Hospitalists (physicians) and Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs).
