Child Labor Laws
- You must be at least 14 to work anywhere – the only exceptions are working on a farm, delivering newspapers, and being in the movies!
- If you are between the ages of 14 and 15
- During the school year, maximum hours you can work is 18 hours per week, 3 hours per day and no later than 7:00 p.m.
- In the summertime, you can work 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, and no later than 9:00 p.m.
- If you are between the ages of 16 and 17
- May be employed for unlimited hours in any occupation other than those declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor
- You may NOT use potentially dangerous tools such as meat slicers, saws, grinders, etc.
- If you are 18 years old
- Your can work wherever, whenever, using whatever you want
