The Safe and Healthy Childcare Program at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics provides indoor environmental health education, asthma education and training, along with professional consultations to home-based childcare providers throughout the Kansas City area. 

The goal of the Safe and Healthy Childcare Program is to help reduce the following factors that can impact the lives of children:

  • New cases of asthma
  • Health care burdens associated with pediatric asthma
  • Environmental factors
  • Hazardous conditions

Childcare Health Education

Our team also provides educational opportunities for childcare providers throughout the Kansas City region. Topics include:

  • Indoor environmental health
  • Asthma triggers indoor air quality
  • Home toxics and chemical hazards
  • Environmental tobacco smoke
  • Radon
  • Home maintenance and safety
  • Injury prevention

Childcare Healthy Home Assessments

The program provides for following:

  • Assessments for indoor environmental quality
  • A visual assessment report
  • A Healthy Home Action Plan will be provided to help outline specific areas of the environment that should be changed to improve indoor air quality and reduce exposure to potential indoor environmental contaminants, allergens and asthma triggers.
