Welcome to the Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition’s (MOCAN)
presentation entitled, Obesity in Missouri's Children: A Growing Epidemic. This
training has been designed specifically for physicians and other health care
professionals who want to learn more about childhood obesity and how they can
become more effective in working with the children and families that they
encounter. Upon successful completion of this educational program, physicians
should:
- Describe how to assess children for obesity using BMI
- Take a nutrition and physical activity history during well-child visits for all
children
- Practice patient-centered counseling tailored to readiness for lifestyle change
using the Empathize/Elicit-Provide-Elicit technique
- Set simple, achievable goals for healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors in overweight and obese children
The training consists of a series of one PowerPoint module narrated by Sarah Hampl, MD, FAAP*, Medical Director of Weight Management at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, MO and the Chair of the Healthcare Working Group of MOCAN. If you have applied for continuing medical education (CME) credit, you must completely view the one-hour training session. Following this session, you will need to complete a brief test of your knowledge of the module’s content (ten or fewer questions) and the evaluation at the end of the module to receive CME credit.
Primaris designates this activity for a maximum of 1.00 hour AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
